Vegetable Juicers

Anyone who has decided to take up 'juicing' their vegetables, will quickly realise there are loads of models available. Some models are more suitable for fruit, although they will normally produce vegetable juice as well.

However, if you mostly want to juice vegetables there are certain models more appropriate than others. Even better, there are some that were specifically designed with vegetables in mind and will produce a higher quality juice than other styles. Vegetable juice tends to have a different consistency to that of fruit juice, usually being far more concentrated. So what features should you be looking for, when choosing one from the many vegetable juicers around? There is no doubt, fresh vegetables are good for you. You may just be interested in pursuing a healthier lifestyle, with no particular or specific variety in mind. Maybe the doctor has said you need more vegetables because of health problems. Whatever the reason, the following models were designed more with you in mind.

An Omega 8003/8005 is very easy to clean and quiet - no need to wake the neighbours! Produces a good yield too, and is best for juicing wheatgrass and leafy vegetables. One of less expensive single augur models, retailing at around $250, and comes with a long ten year warranty. The Solo Star model is also particularly good for wheatgrass and leafy vegetables. It also deals with carrots much easier than many of the other single auger models around.

Green Star is expensive and unless you are really serious about juicing it's probably not necessary to spend so much of your hard earned cash! This model has Magnetic & Bio ceramic technology, which means it will extract more minerals from the vegetables, and is especially good for leafy vegetables. It comes with a five year warranty and is priced at around $450.

The twin gear vegetable juicers, like the Green Star, are much more suited for vegetables, because they NEED lots of fibre to push the pulp through the machine. If you want to make a combination juice, vegetable and fruit, then you should alternate them, using the softest first. If you don't, the machine often becomes backed up. Many of the models, designed more with fruit in mind, also tend to deal badly with leafy vegetables, this can render them almost useless. Whichever you choose, make sure it suits your particular needs. What's best for your friend at work may not be the best for you. What is also one of the most important things to consider, is, how easy is it to clean? If you purchase a model that drives you crazy when it comes to cleaning it could very well put an end to all your good intentions
